Roots & DNA

Stonefort Reinsurance operates today as an independent, fully licensed reinsurer based in Luxembourg, forming the core of Stonefort Group’s strategic activities in risk and capital management.

We are firmly anchored in our group heritage — born from the world of construction and infrastructure. Founded in 2000 as the internal reinsurance platform for HOCHTIEF and ACS, two global leaders in the sector, our origins reflect a deep connection to operational realities and complex risk environments.

Our initial mission was to support HOCHTIEF’s North American operations, notably through the reinsurance of Turner Construction and its subcontractors in the United States. This foundational experience shaped our approach: rigorous, relevant, and grounded in the field.

Over the years, we expanded our expertise by exploring niche markets internationally, always remaining true to our DNA — technical depth, disciplined underwriting, and a commitment to building strong, lasting partnerships.

Since 2018, our engagement with third-party clients across Europe, including direct insurance business, has been guided by the same standards that defined our group-based activities: precision, reliability, and relevance.

In 2023, we reaffirmed our core vocation: reinsurance. This strategic refocus allows us to consolidate our strengths and reinforce our role as a dedicated, professional reinsurer.

We remain rooted in our origins, yet resolutely open to business partners who value stability, relevance, and long-term vision.

ACS & Hochtief, our parents

Stonefort Group, incarnated by Stonefort Insurance Holdings, is a wholly owned subsidiary of HOCHTIEF AG, one of Europe’s leading construction groups, and part of ACS Group — a global leader in infrastructure.

Our role is to support this ecosystem by centralizing risk, improving capital efficiency, and ensuring quality reinsurance coverage across all entities.

HOCHTIEF

In 2000, Stonefort Re commenced its business operations by providing reinsurance solutions in North America for HOCHTIEF Group’s largest subsidiary TURNER (USA) and its sub-contractors.

ACS

With HOCHTIEF Group becoming part of Actividades de Construcción y Servicios, S.A. (ACS) in 2012, Stonefort Re broadened its relevance within the extended Group.
